Players have never had power like this before in golf.
They've never had leverage like this before and they've created the leverage for the PGA Tour players to lever against the Tour and get a lot more in terms of prize money.
The situation a couple of years ago where Scotty Scheffler, albeit he had a good season, he made more money than any starting quarterback in the NFL.
Now, when you consider that their viewing figures are 30, 40 times bigger than golf, that does not make sense.
So Brian Rollup thinks he can continue with these $20 million tournaments.
I'll be interested to see if he can do that, particularly when the players remain independent contractors, Joe.
They can pick and choose where they want.
You know, you had Cadillac...
putting in 20 million dollars to play in in dural a few weeks ago probably another 20 million with promotion and charity donations and all the things that go with it and so it's a 40 million dollar check and yet you know rory mcelroy doesn't turn up and play and then you have the truest the following week um and uh um scotty scheffler doesn't turn up and play the same thing same kind of check so
I think the market will dictate more than anything else where golf lands, more so than Brian Rolop.
If sponsors continue to want to pay $40 million for a tournament on the PGA Tour, knowing that the top players may not turn up, well, good luck to them.
And good luck to Brian Rolop if he can do that.
And the second thing is TV.
What's TV going to do?
At the moment, the TV contract is 700 million or so a year.
That's up for renewal very shortly.
What's TV going to say?
Are they going to continue paying that and even more?
Because they're going to need that to sustain the huge finances that the players are being paid at the moment.
So again, the market will determine that.
