That is until investigators notice something tiny in one of the crime scene photos as they're relooking at the evidence. Michelle's bed appears to be slightly askew. And so they're looking at this photo, zooming in and behind it, they notice a very faint stain on the wall that they didn't notice originally. And it looks like a blood stain.

So police go back to the county medical examiner and are like, hey, we need a second opinion on that autopsy. And when they look closer, they find the damage to her throat is not consistent with the injuries that are usually seen in self-strangulation cases. Which tells them this probably means another party was involved in this hanging.
