It's got the date of the year that I... 1990.
1990, so that was the series against Australia.
And that was the first cap that I received for New Zealand.
So up until that time, and I actually played some Shell Rose Bowl, the 50 over, 60 over, as it was then, cricket before that.
And we didn't have a cap, so we played in floppy hats or got sunburned.
So a little bit difficult for batting because no one had helmets then either.
And so this is my original cap made of beautiful wool.
Yeah, like real ponytail control issues.
oh yeah there's no gap at the back there's no gap for the ponytail um but um i i feel that you know when people get that old baggy cap that um they can they'll deal with that the low pony as they call it will be in play but what you can see there is a quarter is a silver fern um and um and i bought as a comparison the commemorative cap that we were given which has my player number on the back
Number 97.
And you mentioned Greg Barkley.
I got that presented by Greg.
But I brought them along just to show you the difference between the two and the way we've gone from the old-fashioned fern into a more stylised New Zealand cricket fern.
Every opportunity I get to talk to people at New Zealand Cricket, I will be asking them, what are you doing?
It's good to be able to use your influence to be able to hopefully get some real change happening.
Part of the changes around hearts and minds of really giving our players the hope that they can play the multi-day cricket and planning to be able to put that in place and have regular opportunities to be able to do that.
So I'll be asking them, holding them to account.
