It was a 182-centimetre running sort of ruckman, good mark, long place kick specialist, known for his ability to take the ball out of the ruck with a hand pass.

In early 1902, he was cleared to WA, but there's no record of him playing there.
He did play in the Metropolitan Junior League of Melbourne, winning the flag against Brighton with the Old Collegians.
In 1903, he went to St Kilda for the first of four times.

Then he hadn't been to South Australia, so bang, he had three years at Sturt in the Sandville where he won a McGarry medal in 1911, was a member of the South Australian side and won a national title.
