I think for a high school student to be at a position where they can reflect on their learning and realise, going back on my primary school journey, there was no reflection of prior learning.
There was no chance to go back and actually find ways to refine what we were doing or see if there was a failure and learn from the failure.
You know, it's such a mature perspective and really refreshing to see.
I have to admit I was in a position at a time where there was a big focus on numeracy and science and I was very fortunate to be at a tertiary level in a position where experimentation, investigation was encouraged.

And it was a time of looking for discovery.
We were encouraged to start children from a very young age.
We were encouraged to reflect on what we've discovered and position it in different ways for children to keep exploring.
And it was a time when we were looking really deeply at how to integrate and differentiate parts of the curriculum so that they could be intertwined, so that there wasn't just a block where numeracy was taught, a block where literacy was taught, and then science was an outlier.
Instead, we were looking for ways to integrate those parts of the curriculum to create meaningful learning.

If she is in year 10 or year 11 now, it was only a short time ago she was in kindergarten.
You know, 10 years is not a long time.
And it seems like her experience has been very separate subjects rather than subjects where concepts and ideas and learnings could be intertwined together.
