She was out for blood and for whatever reason, something in her mind switched and she became this dark, evil sadist who wanted to murder men for no reason other than to watch them suffer and die.
I don't really feel like I need to review the evidence that links Joanna to these murders because I think it's pretty obvious that she committed them and we do have enough physical evidence, witness statements, and text messages to prove that she's just a messed up person who murdered for fun.
There was an argument that she was under the influence of drugs and alcohol, especially during those two attempted murders.
We know that when she was arrested, she was clearly intoxicated, but obviously it was argued that even if she was under the influence, she knew exactly what she was doing and she wanted to murder somebody.
These drugs and alcohol did not cause her to change so much that she decided to commit more murders.
That's just how she was.
Now, once the trial for Joanna started, only a day after the opening statements, Joanna shocked everybody.
she actually decided to plead guilty to all charges.
It was a surprise to everybody in that courtroom, but those who knew her said that they believed that she took a guilty plea because she wanted more control over what happened, not because she felt bad,
not because she wanted to spare anybody of a trial.
As for Gary Stretch, at the end of his trial, he was found guilty of two counts of attempted murder for helping Joanna with those two attacks, as well as three counts of preventing decent burials for the three men who he helped her dump.
Then Leslie Layton was found guilty of two counts of preventing lawful burials.
Of course, after hearing the verdicts, they now had to wait for their sentencing hearings.
During that time Joanna actually wrote a letter to the judge who presided over her case.
In her sentencing hearing he referenced that letter when making his decision.
In the letter she made it clear that she did not feel remorse for the murders that she committed.
However, she did say that she felt remorse for the attempted murders.
She said that she is ashamed of the brutality and fear that she inflicted on her victims.
She said that that will always be a point of regret.
She said that she wishes that they actually died because then they wouldn't have been left with the psychological trauma that they now suffer with.
