During her time in jail, she did see multiple psychologists who evaluated her mental state.
During that time, the reason she gave was that she murdered to see if she was as cold as she thought she was.
Then the more she murdered, the more she got a taste for it.
It was a fetish for her.
And she said that she was sadistic.
She said that she was proud and happy to call herself a serial killer.
The judge pointed out how her first victim, she only stabbed once in the chest.
She progressed from there until she committed that frenzied attack on John Rogers, stabbing him over 30 times.
It is clear that she is a very mentally unstable individual, and had she not been caught, who knows how many more men she would have murdered.
The judge did not hold back with discussing the sickness and depravity that Joanna exhibits.
And for her charges, he wanted to give her the maximum time that he could.
For the charges of preventing lawful and decent burial, he sentenced her to 12 years imprisonment.
Then for the attempted murders, she was given two life sentences.
And then for the three murders, she was handed three additional life sentences.
Then came time for Gary's sentencing.
He tried asking the judge for lesser sentencing because of the fact that he played a secondary part in those attempted murders.
He didn't actually stab anybody, he just drove around the unhinged maniac who did.
But the judge saw him as just as much as a willing participant as Joanna herself.
So, for those two charges of attempted murder, Gary was also handed two life sentences with a minimum of 19 years served before he will be eligible for parole.
