I did not open the door.
He stopped being polite after that.
He threw his weight against the door.
The door shook.
The bolt held.
He did it again.
The wood of the frame made a cracking noise.
I shifted the axe into my right hand and held the bear spray in my left.
I stood up.
The third time he hit the door, the frame split near the top, and the door came partway inward.
He shoved his arm through the gap.
He was trying to reach the bolt.
I sprayed.
I emptied most of the can of bear spray into his face through the gap in the door.
He screamed and pulled his arm back.
He fell backward.
I heard him hit the ground.
I unbolted the door and I kicked it open.
He was on his back on the dirt outside the cabin, both hands on his face.
I hit him in the side of the head with the flat of the axe blade, not the edge.
