Devotees would be leaded to the maze of pitch black tunnels, eventually coming face to face with the sculpture.
The worshippers' disorientation, in addition to the hallucinogenic effects of the San Pedro cactus they were given before entering, only heightened the visual and psychological impact of the sculpture.
Dude, it was... Just going in there stone cold sober and feeling affected, I can only imagine what it was like being on San Pedro.
