What I didn't hear them say was, but you can't take drugs.
Yeah, they didn't say that.
They just said you can't take alcohol.
So I thought, fine, but...
That year that I was staying at home, I was straight.
I was so sick I couldn't do anything.
My parents didn't want me there.
They never really wanted me there.
But I had nowhere else to go.
So I slowly recovered enough to look for work.
But I was straight in that time.
I wasn't drinking or smoking cigarettes, but that's it.
And then I started looking for work and I found this job with this, they were called NACRO, which was looking after young kids out of jail or with drug and alcohol problems, like a residential care network.
Yeah, exactly.
Government funded.
I mean, I was a compassionate person if I'd thought about it, but I just could see that I wanted to help people, even though I was hopelessly not looking after myself.
Yeah.
So, you know, I told them about my travels and I don't know, I just had an interview and they gave me this job as a residential care worker looking after all these kids.
But what I was to find was Patrick, my team leader, and it was actually a drug, like he was using it to distribute drugs and I became one of his drug dealers.
And out came the cocaine, out came the heroin, out came... This is your boss?
