And, you know, it's a beautiful marriage.

But almost a year later to the day, she dies in childbirth.

And so does the baby.

And Dexter is locked up in quarantine on his ship in Port Louis.

He's not allowed off the ship to be with her.

How do you think that awful catastrophe changed him?

I think it made him ask questions about what mattered most in life.

He's lived a life of adventure.

And as a sea captain, he's discovered ways of making money.

He doesn't quite like his employer's lack of ethics about money making, but he was a little bit flexible himself in what he could do.

He would bend rules and regulations.

And he was earning 5,000 pounds a year, which was a good fortune in those days.

So he's got adventure.

He's had romance.
