I mean, he's proved that in his life as a sailor and as a soldier.
And so, yes, Dexter was not the cliched, you know, effete clergyman.

And what were the conditions like for this camp?
Well, they were primitive.
When they arrived, nothing was done.
They were sleeping on the bare sand until they got the tents pitched and, you know, cooking arrangements organised.
And Dexter's extremely useful.
His ability to conjure up things out of thin air is a real boon.
He finds food for the soldiers and feeds the officers in his tent.
So how is he managing all this, these hard, hard, long marches?
He wrote in his diary, I'm going to have to become as hard as iron.
And so he worked on his fitness.
There's no doubt that some of the marches left him very, very weary and sore.
But he insisted on joining the men.
Chaplains didn't have to, but the better chaplains did that.
And Dexter was there.
He was on a ship.
