Not only did he say he could stand up to Mr. Kearney, he said that he was going to negotiate a better deal than Kusma.
And now Kusma is really what's saving us.
I think people in Canada have determined that that you cannot negotiate with a creature like Donald Trump.
But that being said, the prime minister did promise something better.
He in his Saturday news conference of August 21st, I believe, remarkable news conference.
If you go through the verbatim, he didn't.
say that there was another version, another try to get a prosperity and security agreement with the United States that in some ways would have tied us closer to the United States.
And we're not going to get that now.
He said that's off the table, I think is what he said, including some sort of discussion about critical minerals that he had proposed.
So where are we?
We're looking at a couple of choices, right?
Looks like we're not going to have this sort of prosperity and security agreement.
It doesn't look like KUSMA is, as we think of it, as a free trade agreement, which had like less than half a percentage point of trade between the two countries tariffed, is ever going to come back while the Trumpists are in power.
So we're going to try and muddle through.
But in the interim, we're on the escalator.
And as I said, you know, I remember hearing everybody in Canada, everybody in this government talking about how tariffs are dumb.
And here we are imposing tariffs.
We are imposing tariffs.
Why are we doing that?
When you ask the people around the prime minister, why are we doing that?
