Well, there are two things.
We've always had people of color and unconservative movements throughout the United States.
So that's not unusual.
If you think back to the civil rights movement, you had Zora Neale Hurston was opposed to desegregation, for example, and drawing the ear of a lot of folks as being a contrarian.
The other issue is with border patrol agents.
That's not as unusual for those living in the southwest border region.
where you have a lot of border towns and border cities that struggle economically, and the border patrol offers those communities high paying jobs.
So for many years, you've had a lot of Mexican Americans join the border patrol because it was a safe , it was a safe job.
It gave you federal benefits.
And for a long time, a lot of these border communities, the border patrol is one of the largest employers in this region.
the recruiting of Latino agents has been an effort that goes all the way back to Democratic administrations from Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.
