As far as known evidence available, this is the complete police case, as far as I'm aware.
But of course, there may be further evidence that has never been released.
So, how does Derek Sam fit into this?
From the evidence available to me, the links of Derek Sam to Anne Glassop's disappearance are entirely circumstantial, and are as follows.
Knowledge of the Victim
Derek Sam knew Anne Glassop through horses.
According to Joan Worsley, Anne's mother, Derek Sam had visited the home on at least two occasions.
John Poole, a former Pyburn resident, gave evidence at the inquest in 2002 that Derek Sam had made comments about going on a date with a teacher and that she was a lovely lady with a good body and that she'd be a good fuck a few weeks prior to Anne's disappearance.
It's worth noting that Paul had never told police this before the inquest.
When questioned on why he had not, he said it had simply slipped his mind.
Paul also gave evidence that when the police divers were searching a creek for Anne, Derek remarked to the Pyburn boys and himself, they won't find her down there.
They'll never find her down there.
When Paul asked him why not, he reports Derek said, I'm a black fella and a black tracker, and then turned to the Pyburn boys and laughed.
He had told authorities of these comments prior to the inquest, though it is not determined when this originally occurred.
Realistically, the most important piece of circumstantial evidence is Derek's state and movements the night before and morning of Anne's disappearance.
The night before, being the Friday, Derek was drinking at a friend's 40th birthday party, Henry Neal.
At some point in the early hours of the morning, Derek, drunk, got into his car and left.
And after this time, he was unable to accurately account for his movements.
The coroner at the inquest said that when giving evidence, Derek Sam presented as an evasive and unconvincing witness who denied any involvement in any of the women's disappearances.
However, the coroner adds that despite extensive police investigations and the lengthy inquest inquiry, there is no direct evidence linking Derek Sam or any other person for the disappearance of either Anne or Selina.
