Quince is amazing.
Oh, my goodness. That sounds nice.
I was just in the house, and our friend Anna, she had borrowed a sweater from me. It's blue, and it's from Quince. It's gorgeous, and it fits so well. And when she was wearing it, I was like, I want it back.
Did you make a joke the second time? Like, making sure I know where the gowns are this time. Pfft.
Yeah, it's hard when you're trying to be an adult. That tender time is very tricky. And I think that's probably why you got so upset. You're like, I don't know what I'm doing in life. And you feel so good about it.
They need to make sure that your body hasn't created some sort of aversion to it or have a new issue. I mean, like even with Keppra, I have to go in every couple of years just to triple check everything's working the way it should work.
Oh, fun. Yay, shout out, Lexi and Bobby.
Thank you, guys.
Bye. Bye.
Hi.
Oh my God.
Holy shit.
Oh my God. So pay attention.
Oh, sure. Oh my God. So I can't believe.
No, men are allowed to masturbate.
And women are too. No, this was in public?
Wait, they saw, they could tell?
So it's so obvious.
Okay, cool.
Don't let a little ADHD stop you from finishing.
Hi there.
Yes, this is she.
That's nice.
Hi there.
Yeah, it's partly open. That way I'm not claustrophobic either, so we're good.
It's incredible.
It's pretty. It's effective. It's effective. Efficient.
Yes.
I have a logistical question. It's really personal.
How would you have done a cleanup situation with the gown? I knew you were going to ask that. You did? You did? You knew I was or you thought Dax would ask?
I am just outside of Denver in Aurora, Colorado.
Yeah.
You weren't worried that it was going to get all over your gown?
Yeah, I'm gross.
All right. Okay. Okay, you just buffered with some tissue.
Oh, that's great. Well, you got yourself an awesome wife, the cool sweatshirt.
Yeah, it's terrible. And I swore I would never tell the story right after it happened. And then I told a million people and here I am telling a million more. This takes place a few years ago. I say a few years because it still haunts me, but it was probably more like nine or 10 years ago.
That was meant to be.
But I was in a bit of a housing limbo. So I was looking for a place to stay. for me and my son just to like save some money for a little bit until I got more of a permanent spot. So lucky for me, my cousin said that I could move in with her and her husband. They were going to charge me next to nothing.
But one of the stipulations there was that I had to cook for everybody in the house one night a week.
Yeah, not a big deal. I like cooking. Also a veiled compliment.
I imagine.
Especially when he's, like, got hit. Okay, but still, you're still in your position.
We're both fully naked.
Yeah, my cousin lived with them too. And that was the same rules. And they really didn't want her to cook after. Yeah. But this particular Tuesday, I was exhausted, so I didn't want to cook. But I remembered that I had a coupon for a Papa Murphy, so I was just going to go and get some pizza for everybody.
This will get your mirror neurons firing.
Yeah, right. So nice to meet you both.
You too. All right. Have a lovely day.
I stopped by after work, went up to the cash register, put in my order, and then wasn't even thinking of it. Opened what I thought was the last window and just faced my phone to them. And then the cashier, his face got beet red. His eyes were, like, super wide. I was tired, so I was like, I don't even know what's going on here.
Bye.
Yeah.
And it raised the stakes.
I know.
Yeah, we love that. Oh, good times out there.
It's endearing, but it's a hard one.
My mirror neurons were firing.
One time I walked into a glass. Was it a glass door? It was just a door.
Yeah, we were at Bob's show.
But it was early days. I don't even know if we had done the podcast yet. I was still not that comfortable with everybody. And it was the whole what is now the pod.
And then I cried. I cried in the car ride home.
Because I'm such a failure.
Well, that would be, I think I should get some help.
Exactly.
Yeah, like, 20% off, because I thought it was the last window that I had. Then there was just moaning. What?
Yeah, just really loud moaning. Oh, I thought you meant from him. Someone was being very pleased, and they were getting, you know, more than pizza. They were enjoying themselves. Shush, shush, shush, shush, shush. My phone decided to just autoplay a porn that I was watching earlier. Uh-oh.
Oh, yeah, that's right.
Oopsies.
That's what was playing. And it was like loud and proud and super obvious, which is kind of frustrating because, you know, sometimes when you try to play videos for somebody, it just never plays and it's loading forever. But this was like autoplay, loud as fuck. So I froze and then I grabbed my phone and then tried to turn it off. And of course you can't. Yeah. It's impossible.
Those are the best kinds.
Like ads pop up and everything. It finally shuts off. And the cashier, he was like, um, actually we don't even take coupons on Tuesdays because it's like a buy one, get one deal anyways. So we don't have anything on top of it. So I just showed him my phone, just the porn for like no reason. I was like, All right. And then just silence.
At that point, I kind of would have rather heard the moaning because the silence was just thick.
Absolutely not. So that kind of made it more uncomfortable. I wish there was like a little joke to cut the tension a little bit. But he was a teenager. So, I mean, I don't know how much you could joke with him. And luckily, I mean, I was the only person in there.
Yeah. Just waiting to package everything up and silence the whole time, like a good solid five, 10 minutes. He handed me the pizza and then just head down left. I have never gone back to Papa Murphy's ever again. Not on Tuesdays, not on any day. He definitely told everybody in the company that some old broad showed him her porn stash, basically.
Totally. I'll keep listening.
So you did it on purpose.
Meet me out back. Let's go.
That was definitely an embarrassing moment. And I swore I would never tell anybody and then proceeded to tell everybody in my life.
Yes.
I don't do it at work, but it could have been in the morning time.
De-stress before work kind of thing. Yes. But it definitely taught me the lesson to use incognito mode on your phone so it doesn't autoplay. Cautionary tale.
Sorry that happened, but you gave him a gift.
I like that spin on it. And then it got me here, right?
Definitely.
I know everybody says this, but I listen to you guys three times a week on the dot. I work a morning shift, so you're the first voices I hear in the morning. It's just really cool to actually get to talk to you guys.
We're glad we got to chat with you. Will do. You guys take care. Have a good rest of your day.
Well, you worked at CPK.
Yeah. Did anything ever get weird at the car thing?
Yeah.
Sure. Yeah, that's not good.
I was a gymnastics teacher, and then I worked for my aunt in her law firm. That was it for high school.
Yeah, she did divorce and immigration.
Ich kann es nicht. Das ist das Wichtigste. Ich kann es nicht. Ich kann es nicht.
Das war ein Party-Boy. Das war ein Party-Boy. Ja, ja.
Here we go. Kann ich das anschauen? Sie liebt es, sich aufzudrücken, während ich Blutdraht bekomme. Okay.
Choo-choo. I'm by the little, the twin mountains. Oh, there they are. There they are. The Rocky. The Rocky Harry Mountain. Choo-choo. Oh, and I'm going up the mountain, the main mountain. That was steep. There's a white snow tip. Snow cap.
Yeah. I'm going to be very honest. The second you mentioned and said the Corwin were, like, the two evil people or the evil people involved, I got lightheaded. Like it almost felt like instantly like a, don't talk about me that way. Sabrina's psychic abilities are starting to unlock. Really? It came out in her aura photo too. I have been opening myself up a lot more.
I don't like, I wouldn't say I'm a psychic at all, but like... Well, you don't know yet. That's true. I don't know. You can get your first download here. I'm going to have my That's So Raven moment on this episode.
I mean, I feel like I've always picked up on energies and I have had experiences before. But ever since moving here and living in my own haunted house, I've just been trying to connect a lot more. Yeah. What does that look like? Oracle cards. I have a pendulum that a listener sent us and I brought I brought him. His name's Daniel. There's a spirit attached to it.
No, the spirit attached to the pendulum is Daniel. And I brought him. We'll talk to him tonight. And then kind of just like a lot of connecting to my ancestors.
Yeah. I've felt lightheaded and like heavy. It's like, this is weird for me. Like simultaneously, I feel like lightheaded and my energy is lifting, but then I feel heaviness on my shoulders. Interesting.
Yeah, that's exactly what I'm feeling. Whoa. And it's getting like worse and worse right now.
No, I didn't feel anything in the grave. Okay. Yeah, when we weren't really talking about it. But I was really focusing on how to use that camera.
And not falling in.
No, you can talk about them. I'll just like, you'll just see me like, I'm relaxing.
I think it's the first time we're recording a full episode in a haunted house.
We've recorded from a haunted hotel before. Oh, which one? Actually, in Austin, the Driscoll.
Anna Putnam. Yeah, Ann Putnam. I feel like there's a Sarah Putnam in Marblehead. Maybe that's what it is.
Also, weren't they Puritan? And I feel like a lot of the things you hear about the Salem witch trials, and when people try to theorize, like, what caused such hysteria, is this idea of, like, the Puritan lifestyle was very... Like, for children, there was not much exploration and... Yeah, it was very cold. Yes, that's a good way to put it.
Like, they didn't have any other outlets of where to channel that creative energy. And, like, imagination, maybe.
And most influential.
And attention, like, the amount of attention that she got from it. And then it also triggered a bunch of other people to accuse. Right. And then once someone else does, you kind of all just build on it.
Which also meant a lot of, because childbirth caused a lot of deaths at that time. Like, either the child dying or the mother. There's probably so many deaths related to that.
It was scary.
You don't own any money. You were probably married off at, like, 13 back then.
Yeah, he's great. He also is so open about his experiences.
Yeah. And his mom opened a bed and breakfast here.
Wow. Yeah, I was actually going to read Phil's little message to me because I had messaged him on the Airbnb app asking if he had had any paranormal stories. And he did share. He basically was like, I have so many stories. But basically, he said, I grew up in this house and have a lot of great memories here. I will say I've always personally felt like the third floor is haunted.
Growing up, I had a lot of crazy dreams about the third floor and always felt a supernatural presence up there. As far as guests go, I hear a lot of stories about hearing things or feeling a presence on the third floor or something that was left in one place and then moved later. Luckily, no one has been too scared to stay there. And from most accounts, whatever spirit is there is not scary.
Phil then said, personally, I love this so much because you're staying here.
Phil said, me personally, I don't like to be bothered when I'm sleeping. So I'd always prefer to sleep on the second floor with a fan very close to my head in order to drown out any noise. Okay, great.
There's also two notebooks over there that Kaylin and I found, and we were like, we should definitely, maybe over dinner, read through them. Oh, yeah. Definitely.
a car outside that sounded like singing that was yeah and it sounded like it was coming from over there i heard it like this way yeah the opposite in the house the road is behind us i'm curious the depths of the house is in front of us yeah hello and it was as you were talking about the girl yeah yeah okay well maybe she sings and she's a teenager she's a teenager okay yes i'll keep that in mind
When it was previously a bed and breakfast, an employee had a dream about a spirit. And when she woke up, she swears that there was an imprint in the bed, like as if someone had just been there. Or maybe perhaps still sitting there. So the identity of this mysterious girl and woman is a mystery.
I guess some people say woman, some people say teen. Right.
young lady young lady phil has tried to figure out the cause of the hauntings and a historian helped get some of the details of previous owners which is a lot of the stuff that you detailed yeah there are a few deaths but nothing really stood out but It's Salem.
And we've also talked a lot about on our podcast, like, even if it wasn't Salem, it could be a brand new house and there could be hauntings. Yeah. Maybe it has to do with people or, like, just the location. And also, this house has now been turned into an Airbnb because I think it's easier and makes more money than a bed and breakfast. And I read online, like, Phil has a house booked every October.
It's fully booked. People are coming here for the haunted attractions and Salem. Look at us.
Right. Yeah, you don't know. Are people like hail Satan? Yeah, yeah.
You can do this with the living too. Yeah. I'm better at setting it with the dead. You're practicing. I'm practicing. But so most of these hauntings are like people will feel things, see things move, objects moving on their own. And they'll see this little girl. There's full body apparitions. But oh, wow. There's more.
in this house yeah the one on the third floor is the creepiest and like it looks down the long hallway and there's a mirror at the end of that hallway which i noticed when you were looking for a light switch up there it's like right there and i feel like that is the prime spot and location for you to see a fourth figure appear in the mirror with us in my own home i don't even look in the mirror at night i keep my eyes down yeah i know it's freaky it is
Yeah. I prefer that to whatever there's like the dark figure with red eyes, potentially Hat Man, Shadow Man that's on the third floor.
It does feel like that is not as common, hopefully.
But there is a ghost cat.
Yeah. There's some fun, nice ones.
So the hat man. There is a man in a hat with glowing red eyes that torments guests. And even Phil himself has confirmed that that is the most active floor and the floor that most people have scary encounters. Some people believe that the man in the hat is Giles Corey, who was killed during the witch trials. He was pressed to death. Oh, yeah. That's the famous one more.
Oh, yeah. That could make sense. Well, and also, because it causes sleep paralysis seeing this entity, which, is it sleep paralysis or is it, if it is being like this, like, residual energy of feeling what he felt,
You would have. Yeah.
Usually that's like a spooky, like... I mean, sleep paralysis often is unsettling and spooky. Not that I've ever had it, but like, every story you hear, it's like a weird creature watching you sleep or something in the corner of your room.
Okay. I will also acknowledge that. Truly, that feeling has gone away. I no longer feel it. And I didn't notice it until you started talking about the little girl. Like when you talked about the girl and people seeing her, I consciously was like, oh, that feeling is gone.
I told you this, but usually we kind of try to go in a little bit blind because I like to not have anything predetermined or like sway my experience and like Yeah. Like, I don't want to be like, oh, this happened and it must be that because we learned about the history.
Yeah.
Sometimes it's really cool to, like, not really know anything about it and have something happen and be like, then learn about the history. Then be like, oh, my gosh, that makes perfect sense.
Also, do we all have something we're bringing in here? You know, like, energy that we've brought with us? Or, you know, if you were walking around a town like Salem today, did something come with you? And I've been in, like, every graveyard, so... Right. Probably. Yeah.
Oh, my friends at that house. Yeah.
Also, someone checked out right before we checked in. So who knows how long they were here, if they communicated with anyone, if they were the ones who used the Ouija board that's tucked away in a creepy cupboard. True. Yeah. Yeah.
Well, if you'd like to listen on YouTube, there is an episode we covered about... I can't remember the specific number, but we covered objects in the Greg and Dana Newkirk Haunted Objects Museum. That haunted us and a lot of our listeners.
Peggy the doll episode. That's another really haunted one. If you want to get haunted, highly recommend those.
Fingers crossed if I'm lucky. But if you want to check out just the audio, our most haunted episode is episode 12. It's called Dominus.
It's the listener story specifically at the end of the episode. We highly recommend not driving while listening. That's all we'll say.
Well, sorry. No, no, no, yeah. You and I walked through Broad Street Cemetery before this, and you mentioned, one, that there's so many unmarked graves. Yes. And two, that people today still while walking will fall into graves, like literally the ground will cave through, cave in. Yeah. And people will fall.
Could you imagine?
But it makes me wonder if there were any unmarked graves on the land that this house now stands on.
Good soup.
Jesus.
That is so cool.
Yeah, just a little refresher. Yeah, it's been so long since we've done a tour or even researched it. Yeah.
Well, so far, I haven't felt anything weird. No.
So I live in Marblehead, which you and your mom visited, but I was there for like a little writer's retreat by myself and truly... It was like so magical. And I walked the path that goes from Marblehead to Salem. And I didn't even notice that the sign that says, welcome to Salem was right there because I instantly like felt a shift and it was different.
And I noticed the sign was right there and I was like, wow, that's weird. And then every time I've gone back and forth, you do kind of feel a difference. Yeah.
