So he was disbarred straight away even before the murder convictions had been laid.
The law firm was shut down.
There was also this bizarre incident in September 2021.
So they kind of kept going on this investigation.
In September, so only a couple of months later, Alex was shot in the head on the side of the road and he survived.
And he later admitted that he had staged the shooting himself to try and get a life insurance payout.
of $10 million to try and cover some of the debts.
So he had actually planned that out to try and cover his debts for his son.
Another son who was alive.
So trying to get rid of these debts.
And that's obviously, that became part of the key evidence that the prosecution used.
So he was charged in July of 2022.
The trial was in January of 2023.
It was a six-week trial.
And basically prosecutors argued that he killed his wife and son to try and distract from what he believed to be the imminent release of his financial crimes and his opioid addiction.
and that by killing his family he could buy himself some time to flee and to try and... Interesting motive.
This is a very, very complex and interesting human being and society, this kind of bubble in South Carolina.
Now, you have to also remember that it wasn't just the opioid addiction and the financial crimes, but his son was also facing a murder charge.
So his son... Surviving son?
