Well, we need to talk about Becky Hill.
So Becky Hill was the clerk of the court.
She basically oversaw the administration of the trial.
She managed the evidence.
She managed the relationship with the jury.
And a few months after the verdict, she published a book about the proceedings.
This is a famous case, and if someone's that close, they might be inclined to want to have a tell-all, non-fiction, best-selling hit.
Defence lawyers, though, started reading the book, and they...
Three months later, basically a book saying I ran the back end of this trial in court.
Here was my observations.
And defence lawyers started to read this book and it had a lot of detail of what was said and done during the trial and that actually made them want to appeal.
Well, partly that it got them to check in with the jurors about how Hill behaved around them.
And it turns out the jurors signed affidavits to the defence saying that Hill had told them to, quote, watch Murdoch closely and not to be fooled by the defence.
One juror said Hill's comments influenced her decision to vote guilty because she believed that this clerk was implying that he was guilty.
And Hill also told the jury when they went in for their deliberations, as you just mentioned before, quote, this shouldn't take us long.
Bit of a twist there.
So not the judge, but kind of the procedural captain.
