And I'm working on this every day when it's raining and when it's sunny.
But the reality is we can acknowledge both.
We can say, wow, it's sunny today and go and eat a 99 and honestly do whatever you want in the sunshine and also realize that it is a stark reminder that our government and other global north governments are not doing enough to change the climate catastrophe that we are barreling headfirst towards and that is already being felt in many parts of the world.
We've gotten to a point in this conversation where we're not only scapegoating countries that are some of the most impacted countries by climate change, we're also doing so in a way that veers towards racist.
As has been said, you know, the average Irish per capita, our emissions are much, much higher.
We also have a higher historical responsibility, as do all European countries, because we have historically emitted more.
And there is an allowance within global climate negotiations, and it's complex.
but to allow for a certain amount of continued development in countries that have been historically less responsible for climate change in order to allow them to transition in what we call just transition, which is a transition that doesn't leave anybody worse off than they were before, but instead brings everybody along with us as we transition to a more sustainable future.
So really the saying just that...
and other countries that are continually brought up to make this point are just emitting and polluting so much more is a completely false equivalence, first of all.
But secondly, actually ignoring the realities of climate change and historical responsibility for emissions and the fact that, you know, a lot of these countries don't have the infrastructure that we have in order to transition because of the history of colonialism.
And I didn't call you racist.
I said it's geared towards racism.
But sorry, I'll let you speak.
Sorry, did you just say Africa was a country?
Did you just say Africa was a country?
speak to the question that was asked, because I've been in the rooms where these discussions are being had internationally, and it's a really interesting question as to whether there is more that we can do in order to support countries to build more sustainable infrastructure.
And the answer to that question is yes.
