Well, hello there. Yes, it's me. We're back with another Radio 2 Book Club pod. I have a public service announcement. The Crossed Wires podcast festival in Sheffield is back. Right, time to tell you about our latest Radio 2 Book Club choice. It's called Mrs. Dickens, and it's a fictional telling of the life of Kate Hogarth, who became Charles Dickens' wife and the mother of his many, many children. It's written by performer, director and award-winning author Emily Howes.

One of the themes of the book is looking at how women were treated in the Victorian era and how they were just so easily cast aside. Why were you drawn to this story so much?

That was a clip of Mrs. Dickens written by my guest today, Emily Howes, and narrated by Kathleen McCarran. And did you sneak in and have a listen to the audio book being recorded? I did. It was really, really gorgeous. And I recorded the author's note for the end, which was lovely as well. Oh no.

He do say don't sign any important forms after an anaesthetic. Did you have some plot twists that were unexpected? As you came to, you were like, oh, I'll do another chapter.
