Yeah, I had this like fear that I was going to die young and I just wanted to live a full life.
And yeah, a very good friend, he died.

And he died and we went to the funeral and everyone was sad and his mother was devastated, will be for the rest of her life.
And then the next week people were like back at the bar and playing rugby.
And I went, other than for a few people, Trent will be forgotten forever.
And we'll all move on.
And we all survived this crazy stuff in the Persian Gulf, but he died falling off the back of a taxi.
And I had this feeling of this can't be my life.
I've got to go and live and fall in love and travel and have adventure and make a difference in the world.
Like I can't see myself doing that in the military anymore.
I had this growing desire around international development, would be what you'd call it academically, but helping the poor and coming up with economic ideas to help people.
And I'd been reading about Bangladesh and Muhammad Yunus and microfinance.
And I saw STA Travel existed back then, the student travel.
And I saw they had this deal going to India.
So I said to Apple's, hey, do you want to go to India over the summer?
And it just felt interesting and exciting.
And we headed off to India with a backpack each.
