I'm all for correcting things or being critical of things that you need to be critical of.
But I think in being critical...
You're analyzing something.
And in that analysis, you should offer up the possibility that what they're doing is correct.
Everything that you look at should not be how are they screwing it up.
It should be, all right, are they doing this correctly?
Because there's a lot more that goes into just, it used to be lefty versus righty.
That's all we need to look at.
And then it's like, oh, we can see his history against individual pitchers.
Oh, well, yes, that's lefty on lefty, but he actually has hit .420 with a .500 on base and a .600, so we're going to let him go.
Well, now you know what they've done?
They're like, well, why does he hit so well, lefty on lefty?
Oh, it's because his bat path is this, and his pitch delivery is this, and that, while it's lefty on lefty, actually he's throwing right to the fat part of the bat.
That's why it's successful.
They go to that nth degree.
That's what Daniel Mack and his team does.
So generally speaking, just lefty hitter on lefty arm, no, you don't want to do it.
But there are some lefties that just everyone's swing path and everything that goes into it means that there are guys who know that's a pretty good matchup.
