Look, anyone watching Elijah Holland's play out there on Thursday night could clearly say that something wasn't right.
Now, we've heard from the AFL and Carlton in the wake of this incident.
It's kind of felt like they're pointing the finger at each other.
Should someone have clear accountability in cases like this?
there are processes in place to assess a player's physical fitness before they play.
There's training sessions, you know, they're watched by their coaches.
I'm sure that there are conversations that happen in the dressing room about how's that niggle feeling, mate?
Should there be a formal process in place to assess a player's mental health in the wake of the Elijah Hollands incident?
case because, you know, we don't know for sure what was going on.
Both have said that there was a mental health episode at play.
So, you know, should we be having more formal procedures in place to protect players' mental health as well as their physical health?
In your opinion then, did Carlton fail in its duty of care for Elijah Hollins in not letting him take to the field if he was in the midst of a mental health episode?
No one's suggesting that the players did anything wrong as such, but do players, do teammates have a responsibility to each other to maybe call out to the coach or to an assistant coach or, you know, to someone who's in charge, hey, I don't think that so-and-so is doing too well.
I think we should review whether he's playing right now.
Is there a question of that, that, you know, players maybe should have spoken up?
Yeah, lots of questions that I'm sure, you know, clubs will be looking internally to answer themselves as well.
Look, the AFL does like to position itself as a bit of a leader on social issues.
This will undoubtedly have an impact on how people view the AFL in that space, but
What do you think is going to happen internally within the league to address this going forward?
Because I think, and you know, commentary around this is that it's going to be a bit of a reckoning for how mental health issues are handled within professional sports in Australia.
