They're the ones that are always harder to find.
So there's always, you know, a bit of a push to take those players.
But I love...
not only the production from Carl's, he plays physical, he's a very direct hockey player, he has an edge to his game, great offensively on the power play, has a bomb of a shot, moves the puck incredibly efficiently as well.
Maybe some of the edge work compared to a guy like Chase Reed, it doesn't quite compare, but the overall package, the mentality side of things, I've really fallen in love with Carson Carl's.
And I'm not saying he's necessarily in a tier above Chase Reed and even Keaton Verhoff and even Albert Smith.
I've had people compare Albert Smith to Maury Sider and some wonder if he could be the first or second D-man taken.
So there's, again, a lot of variance in terms of how
you rank these D-men.
So I have a real affinity for Carson Carls, but I don't think that you would be going wrong necessarily if Keaton Verhoff or even Chase Reed is the guy that goes to number three.
The only question I have with Reed, and he's not too old, but he's a slightly later birthday for somebody who's in his first draft eligible year.
The numbers were okay, but not eye-popping, and especially when you consider that the
Quality of competition in the CHL this year is not quite as high as it has been in the past because so many of the 20-year-olds are now playing in the NCAA.
A lot of guys are going to the States to play in the NCAA as 18-, 17-year-olds, even 19-year-olds.
So I think the overall competition has come down slightly.
So I do have some questions about...
Is Chase Reed quite as dynamic offensively as we assume he is?
Because the numbers don't quite suggest it, but when you look at it from the eye test, a really exciting hockey player.
So it really is in the eye of the beholder in many ways.
And personally, I have a lot of time for Carson Carls.
