So I think that based on the situation, it might differ to some extent.
And like we talked about with the Carolina model, Carolina generally doesn't love spending a lot of money on their high-end executives and their head coaches.
Even with Brad Brindamore, they drew a real hard bargain with him.
He's not one of the most underpaid coaches, but he's not one of the highest paid coaches considering his acumen and longevity and success with the Carolina Hurricanes.
So it doesn't mean that if you're not spending the high-end dollar that you can't put together a good staff.
But when you have the money, it gives you a better chance of doing so.
I hate sitting on the fence, but I think there's more nuance on this one than what people are kind of viewing it as.
And I don't think that the Canucks are necessarily going to be cutting every corner financially over the next little while.
Yeah, I think ultimately, and what I would hope is that if you're going to be closer to the cap floor, which I think is perfectly prudent when you're rebuilding, and I think you should still be willing to spend a bit more to weaponize your cap space and get some assets.
And I think there's a way of doing both.
But if you're not going to be spending to the cap, then you should be willing to spend a bit more behind the scenes and around the edges and on certain individuals.
And if the Canucks are truly wanting to do this on a tight budget, then I do have some concerns about them being able to pull this off successfully.
But I'm not convinced that they are going to cheap out on everything moving forward.
I think as the next year goes by, I think we'll get a better idea of it.
So that's why I'll say...
The idea that they're not spending because of the firing the coaches may be slightly overrated, but I do share a lot of the same concerns and questions.
It's dumb.
Yeah, no.
It's dumb.
So you're essentially saying, let's take a worse player now because I want a better chance of maybe getting the first overall pick next season.
