And we'll see ultimately what happens here.
And I'm not saying the organization should be worried about...
What fans think in terms of how they view the best path forward when it comes to the rebuild and who should be in charge of the team.
But public sentiment does matter.
And I think what this kind of shows more than anything, too, is there has been a decrease in trust between the fans and the organization.
And that happens when a team goes from having the hopes of being a playoff team and building around Quinn to all of a sudden you're facing a rebuild.
And then the questions around...
is the organization truly willing to embrace the hardship that's necessary through a rebuild to come out of it on the other side in a more positive type of way and have the patience and the fortitude to go through that process?
And that's already a big question that people have.
So then when you hear
a name like Pierre Dorian, who if you just remove any inside knowledge, your knee-jerk reaction as an average fan is, wasn't that one of the worst GMs in the National Hockey League?
We went through the whole Jim Benning process here in Vancouver, so we're talking about the solution being the one guy that we would ridicule in this market and say, hey...
Benning might have his problems, but at least he's not Dorian.
And when you kind of bring that guy into the equation, I can understand why there was a lot of anger from the fan base.
And I'm not saying the organization has backed off because of how fans feel about it, but I would imagine that they have heard what people are saying right now.
And you do have to have some level of trust with your fan base because if you're asking them to buy into being season ticket holders, buy into the long-term approach, you have to have people in place that they have faith in being able to execute that plan.
And Pierre Dorian doesn't have the public cachet to convince people that he's the right man for the job.
Yeah, and ultimately, I think what kind of came out today, and I know Gary Mason mentioned that it's down to a five-man short list.
But one thing I have also heard, and I know Irv mentioned this too, that...
the process hasn't closed to people that they're still you know having discussions and perhaps even open to talking to somebody that they haven't had you know full discussions with yet so far so we'll see how this process kind of unfolds but certainly today it seemed like at the very least uh the pure dorian thing not fully on ice but perhaps cooling in the corner a little bit from again look what a wild 24 hours of candidacy you're in
