So what if you told a joke like this?
And, again, I thought of this joke 30 seconds ago.
I have cautious hope for this country.
You know, for a long time I've been waiting for somebody that can get in there, take this country, look at its problems, and grab them by the pussy.
Not the greatest joke in the world, but it's a way to sneak that in there where people laugh and acknowledge, yeah, he did say that.
It's kind of gross.
Yeah, no, I can't disagree with you.
There's a great book about the transition of comedy from the Bob Hope Room of Joke Writers to the Lenny Bruce George Carlin thing.
Did you ever have Cliff Nesteroff on the show?
He wrote a book called The Comedians.
It's coming out in paperback, I think, this month.
He's a really good friend of mine.
It's a brilliant book about the study of American stand-up comedy from the 1900s up to today.
It's phenomenal.
They've been arguing their points emotionally for years.
They don't know how to process this because they've also lived in a self-enforcing media bubble.
And, you know, that it was not conceivable that he would win in the media bubble in which we all lived.
And they have a lot of cognitive dissonance because they have to accept the fact that the world was not what they thought it was.
And the country's not what they thought it was.
Regret it.
