So for me, I looked at those guys and thought they should be in the MVP race.

I don't know if they necessarily check off all the defensive boxes to be the best all-around defenseman in the world.

And I know that can be tough, right?

Like how can one fit in one category but not the other?

Sometimes I feel like the Norris Trophy just gets treated like the most valuable defenseman.

Yes.

And not the best all around defensemen.

And I am nitpicky with this.

I'm incredibly nitpicky with these awards, and I think this year we have to split hairs, right?

But the scoring is great and wonderful.

The quality of teammates he plays with and shares the ice with, great and wonderful too, and factors in as well.

But I just feel like some of the other side is missing a little bit.

So I would love it if we could...

you know, keep thinking critically about all of these defensemen and having these conversations.

Cause I do think it helps move the needle a little bit more than maybe we saw 10 years ago with these awards conversations of like drew down.

He deserves it because he got robbed in the past and it's like, okay, but what did he do this year?

Like, what have you done for me lately?

Um,

but i do think the there should be split awards and i know a lot of people are in favor of that i'm not saying there shouldn't be more awards for defensemen because defensemen for some reason generally are limited to just the norris but i think splitting the awards honestly is is a cop-out like we should be better at figuring out who the best all-around defenseman is you want to have something for the best shutdown defenseman sure or the best offensive defenseman now i'm not arguing for an essa lindell to jump into the norris race because the offense should matter

That's the difference between a Lindell and a Sider.
