You know what?
If I had to pick a Blue Jay, I actually might go to Myles Straw, given that at one point he had as many hits, rather, as the entire team combined, including a home run, his first of the season.
But I really wanted to use it as an excuse to talk about Eric Lauer.
But I do think, actually, now that I say it out loud, I think the player of the game on the Blue Jay side should go to Myles Straw.
But...
I do want to get to Lauer.
Five innings, three runs, all of which were earned, a walk, four strikeouts, 83 pitches, and 60 strikes.
Ben had spoken about this during the game tonight, but...
I was present to see this firsthand the day after his last start against the Twins.
Just trying to remember who they're playing.
He and I were down in the clubhouse, and Lauer visibly did not look like himself, right?
I mean, you'll see them out and about in the clubhouse as they get ready.
They chat with their teammates, chat with us.
He clearly was not well even the day after.
He told Ben, and Ben said this on the broadcast tonight, that in that fateful third inning the last time out, he felt gassed
You know, he lost some weight.
We've learned.
So clearly not 100% of that start.
I bring this up now because it does feel like, even though the result is what it is tonight, a tough loss, I do feel like we saw some visible improvement in Lauer simply from...
a velo standpoint tonight.
