The open-toe leather sandal, known as the Kolhapuri Chappal, is traditionally worn by farmers in rural western India.
For years, the Kolhapuri Chappal has had a geographical indication tag which offers legal protection to its cultural heritage.
So after Prada appeared to copy the sandal for Milan Fashion Week, Indian artisans filed a case in a state high court for violation of intellectual property.
Following the backlash, Prada acknowledged its designs were inspired by Kolhapuris.
Now Reuters reports that Prada will manufacture 2,000 pairs of the Kolhapuri sandals made by Indian artisans.
They'll be sold for nearly $1,000 a pair when they go on sale in February.

Reuters reports that major manufacturers, including Apple, Google and Samsung, have opposed the move due to legal and privacy concerns.
It comes after the Indian government retracted a previous proposal mandating phone manufacturers to pre-install a state-run app that would have allowed surveillance of users.
Rights groups have accused India of using digital surveillance tools such as Israeli software Pegasus to target opposition figures, journalists and critics.
The Indian government did not respond to requests for comments.
