There was talk before the election happened, there was going to be the NatWest share sale and the NatWest share sale was going to be another tell Sid moment.
And we have these time and time again.
The government wants you to invest your money.
Why does the government want you to invest your money?
Well, it says because it wants you to support UK PLC.
It wants to support the UK stock market.
Arguably, a lot of the money that's getting invested isn't going into the UK stock market anyway.
It's going into the global stock market.
It's going into gigantic American companies.
If you do the sensible thing and buy a global tracker fund, 60% of your money is going into the US stock market, not the UK stock market.
But the other reason why they want you to invest is that it will make you richer over the long term.
And despite my naturally contrarian and anti-authority sentiments, I agree with the government here.
What the government's trying to do is what we do on this podcast week in, week out.
And what we do on This Is Money day in, day out.
It's trying to help people make the most of their money.
It's not saying you must only invest, you must never save.
It's not saying you're a saver, you're bad, you're an investor, you're good.
what it's saying is that there is reams of highly credible proven information that shows your best chance of growing your wealth long term and by growing your wealth I mean growing it above inflation because if you don't
