This has been brewing for years, and it's, you know, I know this is a person who grew up there. matched

I still am involved in the community there, including working with a youth group in that very estate where the crash happened. matched

And there are kids in that estate who don't have adequate shoes or clothes, they don't have access to basic sanitary properties. matched

A lot of them are hungry. matched

And it sounds like I'm describing a third world country, but this is a town that's been neglected by government after government, huge industrial decline, no real uh investment, jobs are scarce, there's a huge amount of NEETs. matched

And for some crime is all they know, that's all they have access to. matched

At the same time, you've got, as you've described, this rising hatred for the establishment because nothing matched

So, you know, the people from that area, some of them hit authority figures, and that means the police too, and yet the people in the police, a lot of them are from the area. matched

So you've got this real mess at the moment. matched

And it's not everyone there, of course, and there's elements of it where there's real entrepreneurial spirit and things, but it's been really let down. matched

So how do you unpick all of that? matched

Because it is a it's it's a mess. matched

I definitely want to ask you more about the youth and employment stuff. matched

But just on the point you were saying there about social cohesion but also funding, you know, obviously you're talking there about fiscal devolution in terms of people being in control of how the money's spent. matched

The other thing I wanted to ask you about is because it's something we've discussed on the podcast before, is whether we should have bonds allocated to certain things locally. matched

So for example, we had social impact bonds in Peterborough, didn't we, which were uh which matched

Was a trial to try and help reduce re-offending rates. matched

So, you know, you could essentially loan money, get this a guaranteed return on it, and then it could be used in the area in the prison system to try and reduce reoffending. matched
