Sometimes people in these situations have these conflicting voices in their head telling you to let go or demanding you stay alive.

Did you have that?

How do you reflect on those conflicting voices in your head in the years that have passed now, Stephanie?

So you were telling me before about how you're lying there very badly burnt, trying to will yourself to stay alive.

You can hear your dad's voice in the distance somewhere.

And then a helicopter landed nearby.

Now, these guys weren't paramedics, but three men named Jason, Mark and Tom.

Tell me about these men, Stephanie.

Now, these guys were not paramedics.

Like I said, they had a helicopter service on the mainland and they'd seen the volcano erupt and they'd gone out there on their own initiative.

They're kind of like good Samaritans, these guys.

We now know the paramedics had been told not to fly out, that they were going to put themselves at too great a risk to fly out.

So they didn't get there for another two and a half hours after the eruption.

So they flew you to the hospital, the local hospital, and put you in a medically induced coma.
