This was a travel team.
So my dad and I were not allowed in the accommodations that were for all the other boys.
So we were paying additionally for our own motel rooms, our own meals, all this stuff, driving God knows where.
And like at the end of the season, I remember we're driving home from a tournament in Delaware and I start crying and my dad pulls over in a cornfield and
And he's like, what's wrong?
I just I felt so guilty that I'd had such a horrible time because I knew he had done so much to make it possible for me to do that.
But that was sort of my first glimpse of.
Oh, yeah.
And then obviously we get to high school and my teams are great.
My coaches are great.
But it's starting to be that sort of like you're stepping off the bus and it's like, yo, is that a girl?
Yo, that's a girl.
Yo, what's going on?
Yo, you.
yo, they got a girl.
And there are announcers who are saying, like, now up to bat, Steven Everett, because they think my name's a typo.
Like, wait.
And so just all those little things just started, like, digging away, digging away.
My senior year, I was a captain on my team.
And so I got to play in the All-Star game at National Stadium.
