And quite often clubs then do that.
Just because they feel they should and there's a pressure too and some others are doing that.
If they're going for the title, they don't want to change too much but they want to strengthen.
If they're trying to avoid relegation, they want to freshen up, get rid of a few, bring in a few.
And I just think it's a bit of a false market really.
Probably has been one or two instances of that, hasn't there?
But not any that spring to mind.
So I'm pretty sure Pompey have never done it.
And I don't think many top teams would do it just because it kind of looks bad, doesn't it?
It looks like whatever position you're in at the start of January, it looks like you think you're okay.
You don't need to strengthen.
which maybe in some cases you don't you know I sometimes think that all this wheeling and dealing that the clubs do doesn't really affect their season as much as some think it does you know there's exceptions to that of course but
I think if everybody was suddenly banned, I think if the January transfer window was stopped for whatever reason and everybody had to carry on with the squad they had, probably your league standings at the end of it probably wouldn't be much different to how they work out with the transfer window having been in place.
There's always, at any one time, there is a forgotten, there's at least one forgotten man, I think, at every club, isn't there?
Sometimes, in Pompey's case, there's two or three or four or five.
But, yeah, he's a funny one, actually, Waddingham, because he was around the squad last season, wasn't he?
He was on the bench quite a lot.
He came on at West Brom and in a game, admittedly a game we'd already lost, he scored and people thought, oh well, he might have something about him.
