After opening it up, Jim went inside with a torch and found a small staircase which led down into a room.
This room was quite large, and in one of the walls a framework still existed for a door, which told Jim that this could have been some type of attic space.
The door had been removed and bricked up, leaving only the frame behind as the only indication that something had been there.
From inside the house, there was no visible evidence to suggest that the room even existed.
So why was it there?
Within the first 48 hours of the room being discovered and opened up, hotel staff noticed a change in the atmosphere of the hotel.
Something that they couldn't quite put their fingers on, but definitely something that they'd never felt before.
The staff had no reason to believe that the house was haunted, as the last family members had left way back in the 50s, and they'd had no contact with them at all.
But whatever had been trapped inside that room, bricked up, with no way out, was now free.
Movement that inspires.
The very next day, a man named John Hinz had checked into the hotel following a business conference.
John was a purchasing director, a very level-headed man, and not someone who was particularly interested in the paranormal at all.
It was the morning after his stay, very early in the morning, and receptionist Lydia Dawson was busy sorting through paperwork when she heard the bell ring on the reception desk.
She immediately stopped what she was doing and went out to see who was there.
It was John Hines, who was ready to check out.
Lydia noticed that he seemed very nervous and uneasy, so she asked if everything had been satisfactory during his stay.
No, he said, not at all.
Surprised, Lydia asked what had been the problem and was shocked to say the least by his reply.
John said that during the night he'd had a visitor, that someone or something had been in his room with him.
And he never wanted to stay in that room again.
