Yeah, and Saber, the Warhammer experience is much more of a kind of in-your-face type of battle versus the top-down that looks a little bit more like a tabletop that Baldur's Gate 3 gave us. So whether that experience also can convey, which would be cool if it could, right? If you can get a different approach to the game and bring in fans that way, that would be really cool.

He has incredible insights, incredible mathematical knowledge. He clearly got good grades in the courses that gave me trouble. And I appreciate that deeply. But he took a look at the 2024 Monster Math.

and compared it to 2014 to really say, okay, what are the differences that are taking place so that we can kind of know what to expect as whether we're creators or DMs that we can say, okay, you just know that when you're going to the 2024 well for a monster, here's what you can expect. So what is it? And I'll try to do this as quickly as possible.

You'll find the details in our show notes if you are a Patreon backer. Attack bonus is slightly higher than in 2014. Right. So it is it is a concerted. They generally will be more accurate. Save DCs are slightly higher. About four percent of the monsters lost their save DCs altogether. And this is something people have noticed just skimming through.

But he gives us that actual four percent where their attacks now just impose conditions or effects without a saving throw at all. Right. And so there just isn't you don't have to worry about the DC. You will fail it. It just happens to you. 92% of the monsters that appear in both of the books 2014-2024 had their DPR changed

Of these, the DPR increased for three quarters of those that had that change, particularly monsters of CR 10 and higher. And then when he takes a closer look, as of course he did, he finds that this DPR increase is basically entirely from legendary monsters. If you think of 2014, we would say the dragons were designed tougher and the designers admitted this, right?

They said, we just made dragons harder. Now, dragons aren't actually the strongest creatures in the book. Legendary monsters are the strongest in the book. And so you will see that normal monsters follow the 2014 damage per round trend line until they're legendary. If you're legendary, you get a big boost of around 40% to your DPR, which is substantial. Defensive stats have changed.

AC is slightly higher. Not enough to say that there was a big move away from their trend line, but they are slightly higher than before. What has changed in major ways defensively is saving throw bonuses. So before, tons of monsters had great proficiencies and saving throw bonuses in Charisma and Constitution. So you might want to avoid using spells that targeted those. Now...

Though a lot of those monsters have lost those proficiencies, which means that guessing what is someone's good save has become a little harder. Right. And and you wouldn't just want to say mathematically, I should choose something that does not target charisma or con.

That's not necessarily true anymore because of the way this is be redone to where monsters now have a little more equality between which of their saving throws might be strong or not. Hit points are similar to the 2014 averages until about CR 12. And then 13 and higher CRs get a 15% bonus to hit points. We've got changes to resistances and immunities.
