Put it on a scanner.

The cameras look at it and the AI will say this originated from this location due to this time.

And it'll make a video showing the whole history of that piece of rock and how it was carved, cut out and shipped and everything.

Because it will know all of the bits of data.

And instead of looking at a sea of static of chaos, it has all of the connections.
