Is that for all the right reasons?
Or is this, as Jamie and Barrett have said, is this Essendon going back, in his article on AFL.com.au, going back to its red and black security blanket?
Quote, unquote.
Well, it may turn out that way, but they've tried β you put up a list of what they've tried over the last β on your 360 program last night.
They've gone to the untried coach, the young coach, the succession plan, the older coach β
All that and none of that to this point has worked to their satisfaction, the club's satisfaction.
So he wants to coach Essendon.
He's passionate about that.
And he's quite happy to put himself through the process if he's invited to join the process and be measured against everybody else.
I don't know that you can ask him to do any more than that.
No, I agree.
And I'll tell you what the other thing I would do, though, and you and I had a great discussion yesterday on our podcast with Job about this, who had just been recently through the selection process at Melbourne.
And I think one of the things that stood out when, and it's the first time I've actually heard him say this, but one of the things that stood out in that conversation for me was when he said,
He had no preconceived ideas.
Being an outsider at Melbourne, he had no attachment, no alignment to everybody to sit there in that process, that coaching selection panel process, and just choose the best person based upon the criteria that had been set out in the interview process.
And the fact that they only had, I think, the final five candidates that they actually interviewed.
Yeah.
Kevin Sheedy's going to join us very shortly, so I'll have a chat with him.
He's a great supporter of James's, as you say.
I would love to ask James about the Carlton job or any other vacant coaching job.
