He was a widower with a son and a daughter.
And until the werewolf accusations, he was generally well-liked among those who knew him in his community.
Now, there was a description of him written in the late 16th century in an English pamphlet.
I'll go ahead and quote it here.
He would go through the streets of Cologne, Bedburg, and Eprath in comely habit and very civilly, as one well known to all inhabitants thereabout, and oftentimes he saluted of those whose friends and children he had butchered, though nothing suspected for the same.
So basically saying he was very friendly.
He'd go through the town, nodding his little cap to people that he might have preyed upon.
Families who had lost a child to mysterious circumstances that might have been his doing as a potential werewolf.
So basically, like it's mixing this jovial nature with this.
Oh, my God.
Who is that guy?
I think he might have been doing it right now.
Also, I'm looking at this like maybe he is just kind of going, hey, I've got kids of my own.
I'm really sorry to hear that you lost yours.
But instead, people started to see this trend and be like, he's walking around very civilly.
tipping his hat saluting those who have lost people hmm maybe he did it i don't know that's weird because it's just like why are you so friendly yeah why are you so terrible question why are you so friendly huh which is unfortunate but you just that's because it's not that normal i guess right it's just someone i don't know it's not a blanket statement type of thing but like
people just they're either doing their own thing or they're looking out for themselves you know what i mean sure doesn't have to necessarily be nefarious but you don't go walking outside our grocery store everyone you know and you see most you don't have multiple people going hi how are you doing hi how was your day you doing okay you having a good day i hope everything is doing all right for you it's not like you know something that when you're passing by that happens it's
You might be stuck in a line with someone, then conversations strike up and things like that.
That's not too normal, which is unfortunate because you question it when someone's walking down the street going, hey, you know, hey, and hey, hey.
It's like, yeah, we're not friendly around these parts.
