He confesses to be a practitioner of black magic all the way since the age of 12.

So his whole life, essentially, he's been practicing black magic.

He states that he made a deal with the devil and was awarded for his loyalty, given a magical belt.

This belt allowed him to transform, quote, "...into the likeness of a greedy, devouring wolf, strong and mighty, with eyes great and large, which in the night sparkled like fire, a mouth great and wide, with most sharp and cruel teeth, a huge body, and mighty paws."

And then when the belt was taken off, he could willingly transform back into a human.

Now, what's interesting is at no point during this wolf disappearing, Peter Stump appearing was a belt ever described.

And so that is something worth thinking about because there's an element of the story here that's maybe not lining up.
