And so if you're not familiar, just to help you paint the scene of the search party, a cutter is a type of boat specific to the Coast Guard.

So those who first arrived on scene described what they saw, the intensity of the crash.

Remember, this is nighttime, and so it is a hellish image.

They see the plane's interior is shredded.

There's things floating on top of the water.

There are bodies, not all of which are intact, that kind of were in the area.

And now this is where I'm kind of up in the air.

It is very dark, so you can see the lights of the cutter in the background.

You see the fire, but you don't see anything else.

But I will show you.

I mean, you see faint lights, kind of a searchlight, fire, smoke, and ocean, and some reflections.

So you're not seeing a lot.

As you might have discerned, almost immediately upon arrival at such a traumatic scene, they assumed it was very unlikely that there were no survivors.

From here, as the day goes on, everybody there is tasked with capturing as many pieces of the floating debris as possible.
