And I should mention before we get kind of to the end here, at some points in this recovery and search operation, the water was too rough to explore, so the underwater operations had to be paused here and there.
But again, hats off to the diving team.
Truly, truly brave efforts were put into place for those divers.
Right, and it's that same effort that will drive towards a very confident answer, which, again, is a cold comfort, but it offers some closure for any of the family members and friends directly, you know, impacted by this loss.
So search and recovery lasted nearly six months, with the search finally ending in November of 1996.
And in the end, this is what's gobsmacking about this case.
It was a huge search effort, but the remains of all 230 victims were in fact recovered.

And more than 95% of the aircraft, by some estimates, upwards of 98% were recovered.
