And so approaching this orange streak of light from a different angle in 1997, there's an amateur geologist named Michael Davis.
This is where we're moving into the next theory.
He suggests what's called a bolide, B-O-L-I-D-E, might have entered the atmosphere and exploded near the airplane, causing it to crash.
It's essentially a large meteoroid that is torn apart by the atmosphere.
This tearing apart of the bolide creates an airburst.
And so this explosion, it might've just been like this very bad freak accident is what he's kind of saying.
What?
That it entered the atmosphere.
The orange streak was actually this thing entering and the explosion happened to hit the plane as it was coming down or a piece of debris hit it.
i think that's really interesting it's plausible you know a lot of the people said that the orange streak of light came from the ground up and so i'm thinking is there some sort of weird parallax effect where someone flying in a plane or a helicopter saw this and misinterpreted the streak of light it's kind of a hail mary thought there but
he kind of hypothesized that one of the pieces of this belide would have cut through the fuselage ripping open the wing tank and the vapor in the fuel then would have ignited due to the heat of such a collision so almost instantaneously ripping it apart and creating explosion all in one fell swoop what just a unfortunate series of events
What are the chances?
Extremely, extremely rare.
It doesn't mean it can't happen.
Right.
But, you know, it's something to consider.
