Well, Marcus, as a passionate England fan, you, like everybody around this table, is familiar with the idea of scoring too early.
And we knew straight away, like, this is going to be a long night just because of the way this team is and the battle we expect to have.
It had been a little bit cagey before that, but probably more open than it was for the rest of the game in the six minutes prior to that goal.
And it made me think, OK, maybe this is going to be a game with chances in it.
Obviously, it didn't turn out that way.
and the clash of styles that followed were a direct result of that goal coming so early.
Now, I think Arsenal would always have approached the game like that eventually, but the fact that they scored that quickly meant that they kind of went straight into that mode.
And winning a game in that style is like a...
particularly boring high wire act and very, very difficult to pull off.
And actually, in terms of limiting PSG, I thought they did that brilliantly.
More so than anyone in the knockout stages has done in the last two seasons, really.
But they needed to craft a second clear opening and they didn't manage to do it.
how Arsenal would be if they had to be reactive.
And when they did have to be reactive, you know, they kind of pressed a little bit more and they kind of took a few forays up the pitch.
But what was really telling for me was that literally every time they did that, PSG hit them on the break.
It's like, this is why they played in that particular way.
And to me, it kind of justifies playing like that.
