It must have been so awkward, that cabinet.
Do you know, the weird thing was, the cabinet wasn't awkward.
The aftermath was surreal.
So, the Prime Minister, quite reasonably, given everything that was going on, said at the top of the meeting...
The agenda is about Iran today and the consequences of the crisis.
I know that the local election results were bad and I know there are different views around the table about how to respond to it.
I'm asking each of you to come and discuss that with me personally one-to-one rather than have that discussion here out of respect for me and out of respect for the serious issues we're discussing.
And everyone agreed.
We all thought that was the right thing to do.
And then I waited around as the cabinet cleared because I'd asked to see Keir immediately after the cabinet meeting.
And one of his senior team came up and said, he's not in the right frame of mind to talk to you right now.
So the meeting's not happening.
The right frame of mind?
Yeah, it was like something to that effect.
Like he's not in the right mindset or not in the right place to kind of talk to you right now.
Well, like the right emotional mindset?
I don't know if it was emotional or whether he was just like cross or whatever.
But I...
I was like, OK, so that was strange.
Left Downing Street, went back to the department, thought, OK, well, we'll arrange a time later that day, I hope.
