White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt denied that and said it's false and that the Strait is open.
But in the
Statement put out by the negotiator of this, the Pakistani prime minister, he said that ceasing attacks on Lebanon was part of this deal.
The U.S.
and Israel both said that the ceasefire does not include Lebanon.
So there's a lot of confusion about this right now.
Yeah, that's absolutely pivotal to all this.
That's become the central issue and has really bedeviled Trump in recent weeks.
He's really pushed Iran to open up the Strait.
He's gone back and forth on this, though.
In a speech that he gave recently, he said the Strait would reopen naturally, and he was urging other countries to reopen the Strait, kind of saying that it wasn't America's problem.
But then he really whipsawed back hard
on that over the weekend and gave Iran a deadline to reopen the Strait or face attacks on bridges and power plants.
And then he really upped the ante and said that all of Iranian civilization could be wiped out in an extremely dire warning if they didn't
open up the Strait.
And that led to sort of a last minute ceasefire here where Trump said that, you know, this is conditioned on Iran reopening the Strait.
And that's what they were expecting.
The Iranian foreign minister put out a statement that said there would be safe passage through the Strait with the oversight of the Iranian military, raising questions about whether Iran still controls the Strait here.
But this has become such a huge global issue.
