If that person has a catastrophic injury, they're not opting out.
And you're on the hook.
So you have to be okay with paying the full amount.
But if they opt out after some period of time, it's okay because they're typically in their 30s.
You should be able to pivot and do other things.
These shorter deals are a little different and can be harder.
But I also understand it.
It's like, well, that's what it took to get the guy.
They're probably glad they had him for last year.
And this year's situation was a little different with them.
I doubt, I don't think so.
I mean, I still think... Is this what you got to do to get the guy?
Well, I think it's the, like we said before, the market's the market.
I think one thing that I felt like happened with position players was earlier in my career, it felt like, okay, guys, long-term deals, they were getting deals to like age 36, maybe age 37.
you know lately there's guys getting deals till they're 40 and that just didn't happen that often it had to be like you know an a rod or someone like that a very exceptional player and then you started seeing a lot of these going just longer and longer it's sometimes when you're caught up in the momentum of the negotiation and wanting the guy it's easy to add on an extra year you also have this dynamic in sports where
The people making the decisions don't have job security, and sometimes they might be like, I might not even be here for the end of that.
Why should I care if we get the guy?
We need to win now, which is not good for the organization that that's the mindset, but that can be the mindset.
I've seen that.
So, yeah, I think that's part of it as position players started creeping into getting more years, more decline years that became risky.
