Huckleberry Finn was a huge success for Mark Twain. The story is built around a young boy growing up without parents in pre-civil war Hannibal, Missouri, in a house owned by two spinsters and run by unpaid black servants, yes, slaves.  We purposely do not use the "n" word as it is found distasteful to most, Take note parents, the times, around 1840, are different, and this group of young boys led by Huck's trouble-making and boisterous friend Tom Sawyer talk about robbing stagecoaches and finding ways to get into trouble. But Huck, who takes time to think things through, is often smart enough to see through the big talk that comes from Tom and choose the right path. Life on the Mississippi was anything but boring- unless you were an orphan boy stuck in a house with two spinster ladies trying to make sure you were walking the straight and narrow path.
