フィンランドは、デンマークとともに、世界幸福度調査でよく１位になる国です。国際学力調査（PISA）でも好成績で、教育も世界一と言われます。子どもの個性を尊重し、自律性を高める教育が特徴です。 国会議員の女性比率は5割近く、2019年には世界最年少34歳の女性首相（サンナ・マリンさん）が誕生し、話題になりました。マリン政権では、内閣の閣僚19人のうち、女性が12人でした。 性別や年齢に関わらず人生の選択を自由にできることと、自分らしく生きられる社会的寛容さが高いことが、日本との違いです。
